Two Prestigious American Accolades
William Christie has recently received two major distinctions in the United States, recognizing an exceptional career and a lifelong commitment to music, scholarship, and artistic transmission:
- Election as a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, one of the oldest and most prestigious learned societies in the United States, bringing together leading figures from the arts, sciences, and public life.
- Award of the Thomas Jefferson Medal by the American Philosophical Society, one of the institution's highest honors, in recognition of an outstanding contribution to intellectual and cultural life.
These two honors reflect William Christie's international influence and the profound impact he has had on the musical world over several decades. They celebrate an extraordinary artistic journey, marked by the rediscovery of a vast body of Baroque repertoire, an unwavering commitment to excellence in performance, and the training and mentorship of generations of musicians.
Through this prestigious recognition, it is also the collective achievement of Les Arts Florissant that is being honored: an artistic, educational and human endeavor that, for more than forty years, has helped bring this musical heritage to life and share it with audiences around the world.
Congratulations!
