In September, PENTATONE will release a landmark recording: the first complete performance of André Campra’s Requiem, composed around 1695, alongside his Miserere (1725). Under the direction of William Christie, Les Arts Florissants give new voice to a rare work—both luminous and moving—performed on period instruments and in the original French seventeenth-century tuning, thus restoring Campra’s authentic sound world.

Long overshadowed by Charpentier or Rameau, Campra’s Requiem shines with its own unique light: vocal lines of meditative intensity, a clear and expressive polyphony, and a balance between liturgical devotion and almost theatrical sensitivity. The Miserere, with its exceptional dramatic weight, reveals a musical prayer marked by both simplicity and gravity.

Recorded at the Cathédrale Notre-Dame du Liban in December 2023, this album marks the first discographic collaboration between William Christie, Les Arts Florissants, and PENTATONE. More than a rediscovery, it stands as a milestone in the history of the French sacred repertoire.
