George Frideric Handel:
Acis and Galatea
Vincent PontetAs part of the celebrations for the 125th anniversary of Wigmore Hall, William Christie returns to the famous London venue for a special performance of Handel’s masterpiece.
Inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses, John Gay’s libretto recounts the love story of the nymph Galatea and the shepherd Acis, disrupted by the cyclops Polyphemus. The work is familiar to William Christie, who returns to it here with a cast of soloists drawn entirely from Le Jardin des Voix, Les Arts Florissants’ international academy for young singers.
