William Christie’s Birthday at the Philharmonie

A pioneer of Baroque rediscovery, a passionate defender of the arts and culture of the Grand Siècle, a conductor praised the world over: William Christie has left his flamboyant mark on the international musical landscape. To celebrate his 80th birthday in style, what better way than with music?

In this festive spirit, the Philharmonie de Paris is dedicating a special anniversary day to William Christie, with music, dance and, of course, friendship. Happy birthday, dear William!

Tea Time

16h – Amphithéâtre, Cité de la Musique

Whether singers or instrumentalists, all the performers in this concert have one thing in common: their encounter with William Christie at the dawn of their careers was for them a decisive milestone. Since then, their paths have continued to cross with that of Christie, through artistic companionship and sincere friendship. Here, they offer him a musical birthday present, with this French-style "Tea time", in which they pay tribute to William Christie's favorite repertoire: French Baroque music!

Bal baroque

17h – Le Studio, Philharmonie

Get ready to hit the dance floor! Les Arts Florissants and ballet master Pierre-François Dollé are inviting the public to join them for a grand participatory ball, where everyone can learn the dance steps as they were practiced in the time of the "Roi-Soleil". No prerequisites are necessary: everyone is welcome to join in this festive and convivial moment, whatever their age or physical ability.

NB: due to the time table, it is not possible to attend both the Tea Time concert and the Bal baroque.

19h – Grande salle Pierre Boulez, Philharmonie

This is the big event of this anniversary celebration. For this concert, which features some of his most cherished music, William Christie brings together his musical family: the choir and orchestra of Les Arts Florissants, of course, but also several of the great soloists with whom he has forged a loyal companionship over the years... with a few surprises thrown in for good measure!
