For several years now, Les Arts Florissants has been committed to presenting its vision of Johann Sebastian Bach's great sacred works to audiences in the world's greatest concert halls. Each time, this vision has impressed audiences and the press with its novelty (particularly in terms of tempi and instrumentation) as well as with its depth. Thus, after the Christmas Oratorio, the Mass in B minor and the St. John Passion, William Christie wished to tackle, in the spring of 2021, the Magnificat BWV 243.
This work of reference, which makes its debut in the repertoire of Les Arts Florissants, was written between 1728 and 1731 for the Visitation of the Virgin Mary. Its monumentality and the sacred spirit that animates it will provide a new opportunity to highlight the dramatic power of the Arts Florissants choir and the infinite expressive palette of the orchestra.
