A home known as le Bâtiment
An artist's house where history meets creation, in the middle of William Christie's Gardens.
Le Bâtiment is not a house like any other. Entirely restored by William Christie, this 17th century dwelling is not only an invitation to discover the spirit of the period, but also an artist's house that bears witness to a very singular personality: that of its (re)creator. As with the musical repertoire of the Grand Siècle, William Christie has been filled with a passion for a forgotten heritage, that of rural architecture in the Vendée region. He has taken care to study it with the greatest respect for its history, so as to restore it to its former glory... while adding a very personal touch, with the liberty he is known for.
Today, the building is fully integrated into the project of the Fondation Les Arts Florissants - William Christie. As a place to live, to invite and also to listen to music, it allows young artists and researchers from all over the world to come and nourish their inspiration, by frequenting a way of life that is permeated by the "baroque spirit" to which William Christie has dedicated his life. It thus makes possible the experience of a global creative research, where music, architecture, painting and gardens intertwine to bring back to life the soul of an epoch.
