Geneviève de Chambure—musicologist, patron, and collector of instruments, musical iconography, and antique scores—stands as a remarkable figure in 20th-century French music.
In organizing concerts on period instruments from her personal collection (more than 800 unique pieces now conserved at the Musée de la musique within the Philharmonie de Paris)—which she generously made available to the young Christie, Savall and Kujiken, among others—the Countess of Chambure was one of the pioneers of the revival of early music seen in the last fifty years.
In the spirit of diversity and authenticity that she embodied, Les Arts Florissants wishes to pay tribute to this extraordinary, dedicated, and passionate woman, with a concert of instrumental and vocal pieces from Europe’s different schools of baroque music.
