Joseph HAYDN - The Creation ( Oratorio d'après la Bible et John Milton - Paradise lost )
If William Christie has taken the baroque repertory onto the great international stages, he is nonetheless a specialist of Viennese classicism. His interpretations of Mozart, Haydn and even Beethoven have always been greeted with enthusiasm by critics. For the 2017/2018 season he has decided to return to Haydn and more precisely to his monumental oratorio The Creation. This fresco, which celebrates the birth of the universe and takes its inspiration from the Old Testament and Milton’s Paradise Lost, is a miracle of writing prone to revealing all the colours of the orchestra and choir of Les Arts Florissants at full strength. Their interpretation of The Creation was recorded around ten years ago on the Warner Classics label.
Performance given at Saint Jean d’Acre as part of the France-Israel year
