Concert & café: Handel's sacred cantatas

This second “Concert & Café” of the Spring Festival invites us to discover a more intimate facet of the young Handel's work, with two vocal pieces conceived for private devotion, well away from large-scale public celebrations. Written during his stay in Rome, around the same period as La resurrezione, these sacred cantatas - or motets - demonstrate Handel's ability to compose for a Catholic audience, as he himself remained a Lutheran until the end of his life.

This short concert will also feature, alongside the instrumentalists of Les Arts Florissants, Canadian soprano Paulina Francisco, laureate in 2023 of the Jardin des Voix, Les Arts Florissants' academy for young singers.
