La Grange

With its size and acoustics suited to small chamber ensembles, the Grange is an essential rehearsal space in the Quartier des Artistes, regularly used for residencies and masterclasses.
A place to work and share
Inaugurated in 2020 after extensive renovation work, the Grange is now used throughout the year for the activities of the Fondation Les Arts Florissants - William Christie in Thiré (Vendée, Pays de la Loire). Originally a rehearsal hall, it has become a training venue for masterclasses at the Quartier des Artistes, a work space for artists in residence, and an exhibition hall for more occasional events.
Interior design: the work of Michael Odlozil
On entering the Grange, the visitor's eye is immediately struck by the presence of monumental canvases on the main wall. These works by contemporary Austrian painter Michael Odlozil, a music lover and lover of the Arts Florisants, were donated by the artist to the Foundation. They now contribute to the identity of this place, dedicated to today's artists and audiences.
The main motif in Michael Odlozil's work is the landscape. Drawing inspiration from urban and rural settings, the artist transforms these impressions into mental images, which he translates onto canvas through a slow creative process. He uses powdered pigments diluted in water, applied in successive layers to achieve chromatic effects in which the base material remains identifiable.
Economy of means defines the artist's objective, as he uses his paintings as a field of experimentation. Moving away from objectivity, the resulting abstract images are intended to be felt, rather than understood.
The look of things releases something within us. In one way because we recognize them, which make us feel at ease, but also because they can generate associations and memories. I want to reach this directly, without having to recognize.
This project would not have been possible without the generous contribution of our patrons. We thank them for their presence and support, which play an essential role in the success of the Fondation Les Arts Florissants and its past and future projects. Thanks to them, we can continue to promote and nurture a love of Baroque culture and music, gardens and heritage in a spirit of transmission.
