Bringing together the musical traditions of France, Italy and Germany, this programme — created especially by the Historical Performance Department of the Juilliard School for this unique concert — celebrates a distinctly cosmopolitan Baroque spirit. From Georg Muffat to Arcangelo Corelli and Jean-Baptiste Lully, the concert traces a musical journey across late 17th-century Europe.

This meeting of styles also becomes a meeting of generations and continents, bringing together students from Juilliard and musicians of Les Arts Florissants under the direction of Robert Mealy, head of Juilliard’s Historical Performance programme since 2012. 

Following each candlelit concert, audiences are invited to attend the “Meditations at Nightfall”: short sacred performances by candlelight offered in a contemplative atmosphere, without applause.
