First presented in 2024 at the Dans les Jardins de William Christie, Le Violon de Rameau returns after its success — and following an upcoming recording release on Harmonia Mundi — with William Christie and violinist Théotime Langlois de Swarte continuing their exploration of Jean-Philippe Rameau through the lens of an instrument rarely associated with him: the violin.
Inspired by a portrait attributed to Joseph Aved showing Rameau holding a violin rather than his usual harpsichord, the programme reveals a more intimate and lesser-known side of his musical world. It brings together opera excerpts, dance suites and works by violinist-composers from Rameau’s circle, highlighting the refined dialogue between violin and harpsichord.
Following each candlelit concert, audiences are invited to attend the “Meditations at Nightfall”: short sacred performances by candlelight offered in a contemplative atmosphere, without applause.
Access reserved exclusively for ticket holders of the Candlelit Concerts.
