To mark the 300th anniversary of the death of Michel-Richard de Lalande, Les Arts Florissants present a programme celebrating one of the most inspired composers of the Versailles school and a favourite of the Sun King. Alongside figures such as Marc-Antoine Charpentier, Henry du Mont and François Couperin, Lalande remains a central voice in French sacred music. Bringing together spiritual dialogues, Leçons de Ténèbres and devotional poetry, the programme highlights the expressive richness of the petit motet — a genre shaped by meditation, prophecy and drama — while reflecting the encounter between French and Italian musical styles at the turn of the 18th century.

Opening the Festival’s candlelit concert series, this programme will be performed by two sopranos closely associated with Les Arts Florissants: Sarah Fleiss and Juliette Perret.

Following each candlelit concert, audiences are invited to attend the “Meditations at Nightfall”: short sacred performances by candlelight offered in a contemplative atmosphere, without applause.
Access reserved exclusively for ticket holders of the Candlelit Concerts.
