The Count Giovanni de’ Bardi (1534-1612) was a man of letters, a poet, playwright and composer (only a few of his madrigals have survived). He was above all a great sponsor, whose Florentine salon saw the first signs of the birth of opera with the presence of Peri and Caccini. In the intimate setting of the Amphithéâtre, Paul Agnew and the musicians of Les Arts Florissants will come and play the historic instruments or “fac-simile” of the Museum’s collection. An invitation to go back in time, so as to try and create a little of the musical atmosphere characteristic of this Florentine salon.
In association with the concert
Before the concert, at 7p.m., the Philharmonie de Paris is proposing a debate on the theme “The Florentine Camerata and the birth of opera”. A debate animated by Philippe Venturini with Paul Agnew, Catherine Deutch and Denis Morrier.
