Co-produced by Les Arts Florissants and the Département de la Vendée, the Festival de Printemps - Les Arts Florissants devotes its 8th edition to one of the most influential composers in the history of Baroque music: Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643). Considered the father of opera, his Orfeo being generally regarded as the first work of the genre, Monteverdi was also an immense composer of sacred music. The Festival de Printemps 2024 seeks to explore this aspect, with a program of concerts conducted by the two great specialists of this repertoire: Paul Agnew and William Christie.
"Claudio Monteverdi is the founding father of the music we now call Baroque. He, more than anyone else, established its precepts, and his work is essential to understanding much of what was composed over the following 150 years." Paul Agnew, artistic Director of the Festival de Printemps
