Paul Agnew gathers around him some of the most brilliant artists of Les Arts Florissants, for a concert dedicated to the finest pages of sacred music composed for devotion to the Virgin Mary...
Between Italy and France, Renaissance and Baroque, this program honors a whole generation of French composers of the late 17th and early 18th centuries, on whom Italian music had a considerable influence. Henry Du Mont, François Couperin, André Campra, Élisabeth Jacquet de La Guerre, Marc-Antoine Charpentier... all belonged to particularly active artistic centers in Paris, such as the Église Saint-André des Arts. Every week, religious music from France or Italy was played in small groups, and each one drew inspiration for his own compositions.
It is thus a whole musical transmission, from one side of the Alps to the other, that this concert tells us about, by putting in comparison the pieces of these Frenchmen with those of their Italian predecessors - Giovanni Paolo Cima, Giovanni Rovetta, Alessandro Grandi, Nicola Matteis. A vibrant moment of emotion!
And after the concert, do not miss the "Meditation at the Dawn of Night" (included in the ticket)!
