Program

After the resounding success of its premiere at the Opéra Comique in 2021, Titon et l'Aurore will enchant the mythical stage of the Miroir d'eau, at the close of the Festival.

At the end of the 90s, Les Arts Florissants brought Mondonville back into the limelight by recording his Grands Motets. In 2021, it is the opera Titon et l'Aurore that they brought to the public's attention, a rarely performed heroic pastoral that played a decisive role in the Querelle des Bouffons, when it was first performed in 1753, and which immediately established itself as a model of French opera.

As its title suggests, this work carries the audience back to the Greece of ancient myths. The shepherd Titon is in love with Aurora - enough to arouse the jealousy of Éole, god of the winds. The goddess Pales takes revenge on Titon, who refuses her advances, by making him age prematurely. Aurora, the absolute embodiment of love, swears to be faithful to Titon forever...

Followed by nearly 100,000 television viewers during its premiere behind closed doors at the Opéra Comique, then performed in public at the Opéra royal de Versailles in 2022, this production has won the support of the audience as well as the press, which was unanimous in its praise. It is therefore a show already made into a legend that is expected this summer in Thiré. But also a novelty, since the American director and puppeteer Basil Twist, accustomed to visual prodigies, will adapt the sumptuous universe of his creation to the open-air stage of the Water Mirror. A real challenge!

With the generous support of Aline Foriel-Destezet
