Paul Agnew, on tour with the Juilliard School and the Royal Conservatoire The Hague

March 28 2022

From April 20 to 24, Paul Agnew will conduct students of the Early Music Department of the Juilliard School and of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague on a Netherlands tour!

Musicians from the prestigious Juilliard School of Music in New York and the Early Music and Vocal Studies departments of the Royal Conservatoire The Hague are collaborating in a major project in 2022: a series of three concerts in three Dutch cities (Heiloo, Deventer and The Hague) under the direction of Paul Agnew.

After four days of rehearsals, the students will be giving three performances of the dramatic oratorio Die Israeliten in der Wüste by Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, as well as his impassioned Symphony in e minor.

C.P.E. Bach is the most famous of J.S. Bach’s sons and one of the most important composers of the period between the Baroque and Classical eras. He exemplified the empfindsame (sensitive) style, which is characterised by the expression of emotions and a great sense of urgency. Quite conicidentally, the work chosen for this concert, Die Israeliten in der Wüste, the story of the flight of the Israelites, has proved to be tragically topical.

Performances:

April 22 in Heiloo

April 23 in Deventer

April 24 in The Hague
